A Canadian painter who explores traditional artistic themes in an aggressive, unapologetically contemporary way, contrasting poetic tropes with a punk sensibility. Romantic and idealistic, his naive forms (nudes, abstracts, still life florals) reference modernists like Picasso and Matisse, dissolving studies further into dripping, crude gestures of oil stick and neon light.
A mix of nostalgic iconography and naïve or crude renderings of my own design. Layering is a fundamental element in my physical work. These overlays are essential and really contribute to making very unique and singular works that are both emotionally charged and thought provoking.
The inclusion of neon in my work has become an iconic touch. It’s a punctuation to my paintings that has been crafted over many years. The glass is hand blown and pumped with different gasses in carefully selected powder-coated coloured tubes to create a variety of illuminated colours. These were then meticulously documented to create elements for MAGNUM.
The foundation of the work. Some are simple, others are more complex and involved. I’ve created an immense amount of variation through the backgrounds in the MAGNUM collection to create the most dynamic possibilities. I’ve blended new concepts with those from my back catalogue.
